Clowns

What has a clown to do with Christmas? This is, by all means, no circus! Hold your horses—first of all you will hardly find a theme that has not yet been used (or sometimes, unfortunately, misused) as Christmas decoration—why not, then, such a sympathic character like the clown? Second it is no harm when somebody is undertaking the task of lightening the seriousness of time—and who can do it better than a clown?

In fact, clowns were and still are a popular theme in Christmas tree decoration, and they deserve the special division I have prepared for them. Most common are clown ornaments that are made of silvered and painted glass. Much more rare and valuable are cotton clowns with a scrap or composition face. (Lucky you, if you own a Dresden cardboard clown!)
